Comparing GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Metformin in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists were associated with significant reductions in serum testosterone and other hormonal markers in women with PCOS compared to metformin.

  • Four randomized controlled trials with 218 participants were analyzed.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists were linked to a standardized mean difference of -0.327 in serum testosterone levels.
  • Reductions in dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) levels were observed with a standardized mean difference of -0.528.
  • Androstenedione levels showed a significant reduction with a standardized mean difference of -0.523.
  • Improvements in insulin resistance were indicated by a standardized mean difference of 1.217 as assessed by HOMA-IR.
  • Substantial heterogeneity and potential publication bias were noted across the studies.
