GLP-1 receptor agonists and their possible link to lower prostate cancer risk: a review and combined analysis

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists are associated with a 28% reduction in prostate cancer risk compared to placebo or other diabetes medications.

  • The meta-analysis included five studies from various international settings.
  • Both adjusted and unadjusted analyses indicated a reduced risk of prostate cancer with GLP-1 receptor agonist use.
  • An RR of 0.72 (95% CI: 0.610 to 0.832) supports a statistically significant association.
  • Moderate heterogeneity among studies was observed (I = 51%).
  • Further research is needed to validate these findings and investigate potential mechanisms.
