Recent evidence suggests that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists may reduce drug-seeking behaviors related to psychostimulants and nicotine.

  • Psychostimulant use disorder and nicotine use disorder affect tens of millions globally.
  • No clinically-approved medications currently exist for treating psychostimulant use disorder.
  • Existing treatments for nicotine use disorder show limited long-term effectiveness.
  • GLP-1R agonists may be repurposed to target behaviors associated with both disorders.
