Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists decreased body weight by an average of 6.98 kg in schizophrenia spectrum disorder patients treated with antipsychotics.

  • Compared to placebo, GLP-1 RAs significantly reduced body mass index (BMI) by 2.51 kg/m².
  • Waist circumference was reduced by 5.05 cm with GLP-1 RAs compared to placebo.
  • HbA1c levels decreased by 0.32 percentage points in patients receiving GLP-1 RAs.
  • Fasting blood glucose levels dropped by 0.54 mmol/L with GLP-1 RAs versus placebo.
  • No significant differences were observed in psychiatric symptom severity or blood pressure between GLP-1 RAs and placebo.
  • Gastrointestinal adverse events were more common in the GLP-1 RA group, though overall dropout rates were similar to placebo.
