Pre-surgery GLP-1 Drug Use and Blood Clotting and Inflammation Markers in Abdominoplasty Patients

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 60 female patients, preoperative treatment with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) was associated with significantly lower increases in multiple inflammatory and coagulation biomarkers compared to a lifestyle intervention group.

  • Biomarkers such as CRP, IL-6, fibrinogen, D-dimer, and PAI-1 showed less increase in the GLP-1 RA group compared to controls.
  • No symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) occurred in the GLP-1 RA group, while 6.7% of control patients experienced symptomatic VTE.
  • Subclinical deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurred in 3.3% of the GLP-1 RA group compared to 10% in the control group.
  • Patients receiving GLP-1 RA therapy had a shorter average hospital stay of 1.8 days compared to 2.2 days for those in the control group.
  • Weight loss and preoperative metabolic profiles were similar between both groups.
