How activating GLP-1 receptors may counter aging across the body through multiple biological systems

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment counteracted many age-related molecular changes and improved selected physical functions in aging male mice.

Evidence

This was a preclinical mouse study with deep multi-omic profiling and functional assessment after GLP-1RA treatment from 11 months for 30 weeks or from 18 months for 13 weeks, including hypothalamic GLP-1R dependence and comparison with mTOR inhibition.

Caveat

The results are limited to male mice and molecular or selected functional endpoints, so they do not prove body-wide anti-aging benefit in humans.
