Using a glucagon-like peptide 1 drug to help patients stop taking daily insulin injections

Updated

Abstract

At 3 years, 82.6% of patients remained off bolus insulin after transitioning to GLP-1 RA therapy.

  • A total of 252 patients with type 2 diabetes were analyzed in this study.
  • The mean weight change after 3 years was a loss of 8.5 kg.
  • Initial mean A1c levels decreased from 8.6% to 7.8%, followed by a slight increase to 8.1% by the end of the study.
  • The findings suggest that transitioning from a basal-bolus regimen to GLP-1 RA therapy may help sustain patients off bolus insulin for an extended period.
