Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Drugs and New Heart Problems and Death in People with Serious Mental Illness, Type 2 Diabetes, and Obesity

Updated

Abstract

Adults with serious mental illness, type 2 diabetes, and obesity may experience elevated cardiovascular risk.

  • The use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) is associated with potential cardiometabolic benefits.
  • GLP-1RA use may be linked to lower risks of incident myocardial infarction.
  • There is a possibility that GLP-1RAs could reduce the risk of heart failure.
  • The association between GLP-1RA use and all-cause mortality is also under investigation.
