Hair loss linked to glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist treatments: A review and combined analysis

Updated

Abstract

The use of GLP-1 receptor agonists is associated with a 3.252 times higher risk of hair loss compared to placebo users.

  • Analysis included data from 4114 users of GLP-1 receptor agonists across nine interventional studies.
  • The risk of hair loss was significantly elevated in GLP-1 RA users, with a risk ratio of 3.252.
  • Results remained significant when focusing on randomized controlled trials involving patients with overweight or obesity, showing a risk ratio of 3.587.
  • A single-arm analysis indicated an event rate of hair loss of 3.9% following GLP-1 RA therapy.
