Effects of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Drugs on Hip Replacement Results

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists were associated with a statistically significant reduction in 90-day readmission rates (odds ratio 0.81) among patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.

  • The analysis included 6 retrospective cohort studies with 11,869 GLP-1 receptor agonist users and 22,777 controls.
  • Short-term revision surgery rates were reduced in GLP-1 RA users (odds ratio 0.70).
  • No significant differences were found for other medical or surgical complications.
  • The findings suggest potential benefits of GLP-1 RAs in the perioperative management of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.
  • High-quality prospective studies are needed to further confirm these preliminary findings.
