Use and effects of diabetes drugs on people being evaluated for kidney transplant in British Columbia

Updated

Abstract

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are associated with weight loss and cardiometabolic benefits in certain groups.

  • GLP-1RAs may provide therapeutic advantages for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and those who have undergone kidney transplantation (KT).
  • The evidence supporting the use of GLP-1RAs in ESRD and KT patients is currently limited.
  • Further investigation is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of GLP-1RAs in these populations.
