Glucagon-like-peptide-1 receptor agonists and their impact on major heart and blood vessel health outcomes

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists are associated with a reduction in cardiac death risk (relative risk: 0.89).

  • The meta-analysis includes 12 randomized control trials with 82,669 patients.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists are linked to lower all-cause mortality (relative risk: 0.88).
  • A reduced risk of stroke is observed with these drugs (relative risk: 0.85).
  • Non-fatal stroke rates are also lower among users of GLP-1 receptor agonists (relative risk: 0.87).
  • The analysis indicates a decrease in revascularization procedures (relative risk: 0.82).
  • No significant reduction in myocardial infarction or heart failure hospitalization is noted.
