How well obese adults without diabetes stick with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist treatment in everyday life

Updated

Abstract

Only 32.3% of obese members without diabetes remained on GLP-1 therapy after 1 year.

  • GLP-1 therapy persistence was 46.3% at 180 days and 32.3% at 1 year.
  • Semaglutide (Ozempic) had the highest 1-year persistence rate at 47.1%, while liraglutide (Saxenda) had the lowest at 19.2%.
  • The average proportion of days covered (PDC) for the cohort was 51.0%, with only 27.2% considered adherent to therapy.
  • 11.1% of members switched between GLP-1 drugs during the 1-year assessment.
  • These findings indicate challenges in long-term adherence and persistence in real-world use of GLP-1 treatments for obesity.
