How glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor drugs may change blood uric acid levels

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 receptor agonists may significantly reduce serum uric acid concentration by an average of 0.341 mg/dL.

  • The analysis included 17 eligible studies out of 1004 identified.
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists showed a reduction in serum uric acid levels following administration.
  • No significant difference was found in serum uric acid reduction when GLP-1 receptor agonists were compared to placebo.
  • Active controls such as insulin and metformin outperformed GLP-1 receptor agonists in lowering serum uric acid levels.
