Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist treatment is associated with a reduced incidence of diabetic foot ulcers, lower-limb amputations, and related hospitalisations.

  • Observational studies suggest that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists may lower the risk of developing diabetic foot ulcers.
  • There is an association between glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist therapy and a decreased rate of lower-limb amputations.
  • Patients receiving glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists could experience fewer hospitalisations related to diabetic foot disease.
  • Biological evidence indicates that these therapies may exert neuroprotective effects and improve blood flow.
