Glucocorticoid Pretreatment Boosts T-Cell Response and May Lead to Immune Rebound After Stopping Treatment

Updated

Abstract

Glucocorticoids (GCs) inhibited T-cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner.

  • Withdrawal of GCs may lead to increased expression of cytokine receptors on T cells.
  • Activated T cells pretreated with GCs showed enhanced expression of IL-IR, IL-2R alpha, and IL-6R.
  • This upregulation of cytokine receptors was associated with a significant increase in T-cell proliferation.
  • The effects of GCs on T-cell proliferation were not specific to the type of stimulus used.
  • GCs directly inhibited T-cell proliferation by suppressing cytokine production.
