In Drosophila, a 20% high-sugar diet disrupted sleep through gut dysbiosis and intestinal inflammatory signals linked to brain neurotransmitter changes.

Evidence

A mechanistic Drosophila study combined chronic diet exposure with gut-specific Upd3/Eiger reduction and A. aceti supplementation while measuring sleep, activity, inflammation, microbiota, and brain neurotransmitters.

Caveat

The evidence comes from an invertebrate model, so relevance to mammalian or human high-sugar neurobehavioral effects remains inferential.
