Changes in gut bacteria, hormones, and sugar-fat metabolism after oat bran fiber in patients with two types of weight-loss surgery

Updated

Abstract

Participants in the intervention group achieved a higher dietary fiber intake of 15.28 ± 3.69 g/d compared to 7.45 ± 4.63 g/d in the control group.

  • Supplementation with oat bran increased beneficial gut bacteria and reduced harmful bacteria in post-bariatric surgery patients.
  • Fasting levels of the hormones GLP-1 and PYY significantly increased in the intervention group.
  • Improvements in fasting blood glucose and HDL cholesterol levels were noted in the intervention group.
  • Both groups experienced significant weight loss, although the difference in percentage of excess weight loss between groups was not significant.
