Menopause reduces the abundance of the gut microbial β-glucuronidase, impairing enterohepatic estrogen recirculation.

  • Dysbiosis activates the LPS-TLR4 pathway, which may promote muscle breakdown and inflammation in adipose tissue.
  • Short-chain fatty acids could enhance insulin sensitivity by stimulating GLP-1.
  • Altered gut microbiota diversity and Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratios in postmenopausal women are associated with systemic inflammation and metabolic dysfunction.
  • Combined soy isoflavones and probiotics may have lipid benefits, though effects on muscle have not been evaluated.
  • Current evidence is primarily from preclinical models and small human trials, indicating a need for larger randomized controlled trials.
