Stomach and Digestive Safety of Dulaglutide, Semaglutide, and Tirzepatide in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes

Updated

Abstract

A total of 65,238 matched pairs were analyzed for gastrointestinal safety among patients with type 2 diabetes using semaglutide and dulaglutide.

  • The risk of severe gastrointestinal events was similar between semaglutide and dulaglutide, with a hazard ratio of 0.96.
  • Comparing tirzepatide to dulaglutide also showed a similar risk, with a hazard ratio of 0.96.
  • Tirzepatide was associated with a slightly higher risk compared to semaglutide, with a hazard ratio of 1.07.
  • The primary outcome included acute pancreatitis, biliary disease, bowel obstruction, gastroparesis, and severe constipation.
  • Limitations include potential residual confounding factors such as glycemic control and body mass index.
