Abstract

Psilocybe cubensis was the most prevalent mushroom in a confiscated sample of psychoactive fungi.

  • Examination methods included morphologic, microscopic, microchemical, and toxicological analyses.
  • The alkaloid content ranged from <0.003% to 1.15% for psilocybin and 0.01% to 0.90% for psilocin.
  • Panaeolus cyanescens contained the highest levels of both psilocybin and psilocin among the mushrooms tested.
  • Other identified species included Psilocybe semilanceata and Psilocybe tampanensis.
