The helioscope effect: A new way to understand trauma-related memories during psychedelic experiences

Updated

Abstract

Essence

A new Helioscope Questionnaire may capture trauma-related memory processing during psychedelic experiences, and higher scores were linked to more positive reported lasting effects.

Evidence

A cross-sectional internet survey of 468 self-reported psychedelic or MDMA users developed and psychometrically tested a 21-item memory-processing scale.

Caveat

The evidence is cross-sectional and self-reported in a nonclinical sample, so it supports scale validity more than treatment outcome prediction.
