Melatonin and its mimic’s effects on testicle tissue in rats exposed to light or without a pineal gland

Continuous light exposure and pinealectomy led to significant testicular damage in male rats.

  • Disruption of circadian rhythms negatively impacted spermatogenic activity and caused testicular degeneration.
  • Melatonin treatment improved tissue architecture and spermatogenic layering in damaged testes.
  • Ramelteon resulted in greater recovery of testicular structure and spermatogenesis compared to melatonin alone.
  • Histological evaluations showed marked deterioration of germinal epithelium with severe damage in the combined disruption model.
  • Morphometric analyses confirmed reductions in seminiferous tubule area, diameter, and epithelial thickness in melatonin-deficient rats.
