Constipation is a common adverse effect of incretin-based anti-obesity therapies.
- The severity of constipation from these therapies increases with dosage.
- Patient adherence to anti-obesity treatments may decrease due to constipation.
- Discontinuation of therapy because of constipation can lead to loss of metabolic benefits.
- Elobixibat, an inhibitor of bile acid transport in the intestine, could provide an alternative treatment option when standard laxatives are ineffective.
