Immune protein complexes from post-infectious and post-COVID chronic fatigue syndrome may disrupt cell energy use and change inflammation signals

Updated

Abstract

Essence

IgG immune complexes from post-infectious ME/CFS, including post-COVID cases, may alter endothelial-cell energetics and inflammatory signaling.

Evidence

This laboratory study isolated immunoglobulins from 39 ME/CFS, 15 post-COVID ME/CFS, 20 MS, and 41 control participants and tested endothelial-cell mitochondria, PBMC cytokines, and IgG-bound proteomes.

Caveat

The work used isolated immune complexes in cell-based assays, so it does not show whether these IgG effects cause symptoms or clinical disease in patients.
