Incretin-Based Treatments and Their Impact on Blood Pressure: A Summary and Analysis

Updated

Abstract

Incretin-based therapies reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP) by 3.4 mmHg in adults with overweight or obesity.

  • A total of 90,977 participants were included across 85 randomized controlled trials.
  • Incretin-based therapies were associated with a reduction in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) by 0.9 mmHg.
  • Weight loss correlated with greater reductions in both SBP and DBP.
  • Dual receptor agonists led to a SBP reduction of 5.1 mmHg and DBP reduction of 1.8 mmHg.
  • Triple receptor agonists showed the highest BP reduction, with SBP decreasing by 6.6 mmHg and DBP by 2.1 mmHg.
  • All-cause mortality decreased by 18% without an increased risk of hypoglycemia or pancreatitis.
