Do Incretin-Based Treatments Affect Bile Duct Cancer Risk in People with Type 2 Diabetes?

Updated

Abstract

The pooled hazard ratios showed no significant association between incretin-based therapies and cholangiocarcinoma risk, with estimates of 1.07 for GLP-1RAs and 1.05 for DPP-4Is.

  • Four studies were included in the review, comprising three cohort studies and one case-control study.
  • No significant increase in cholangiocarcinoma risk was observed for patients using GLP-1 receptor agonists or DPP-4 inhibitors.
  • All included studies were evaluated as having a low risk of bias.
  • The findings suggest that incretin-based therapies may be safe regarding cholangiocarcinoma risk, though further large-scale studies are needed.
