Different Levels of Inflammation in the Brain and Body of People with Long COVID Fatigue and Concentration Problems

Updated

Abstract

Increased binding of the PET tracer [F]DPA-714 was found in some individuals with post-COVID syndrome.

  • A total of 47 post-COVID individuals were evaluated for persistent fatigue and difficulty concentrating.
  • Of these, 33 reported severe fatigue and concentration issues, while 14 did not.
  • Increased binding was observed in the brains of some individuals with persistent complaints, suggesting neuroinflammation.
  • No significant differences were found in binding in non-brain areas between the two groups.
  • Cerebral and extracerebral binding showed large variability among individuals and were not linked to the severity of complaints.
