Insomnia, nightmares, and thoughts of suicide in older adults

Insomnia symptoms were significantly related to suicidal ideation in a sample of 81 older adults.

  • Nightmares did not show a significant relationship with suicidal ideation.
  • The association between insomnia symptoms and suicidal ideation was independent of nightmares.
  • Depressive symptoms may mediate the relationship between insomnia symptoms and suicidal ideation.
