Smart gel wound dressing combining chemotherapy, light therapy, and heat to fight bacterial infections

Abstract

The AC-Gel@Cur-Au hydrogel significantly reduced inflammation and enhanced wound healing in a full-thickness defect model of S. aureus infection.

  • The hydrogel exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
  • It demonstrated effective photodynamic and photothermal therapy upon irradiation.
  • The hydrogel showed good mechanical properties, swelling capacity, tissue adhesion, and biodegradability.
  • In vivo studies indicated significant promotion of granulation tissue formation, collagen deposition, and angiogenesis.
  • All components of the hydrogel were non-cytotoxic, suggesting good biocompatibility.
