Study plan for comparing two intermittent fasting methods in people with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Fifty-six adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight/obesity are being randomized to compare intermittent energy restriction and time-restricted eating.

  • Intermittent fasting approaches may improve glycemic control and facilitate diabetes remission in type 2 diabetes.
  • The study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of intermittent energy restriction and time-restricted eating.
  • Primary outcomes include recruitment, retention, adherence, and metabolic changes such as HbA1c and insulin sensitivity.
  • Participants will receive comprehensive diabetes education and support for six months, followed by a six-month low-contact follow-up.
  • Results may inform strategies to personalize nutrition therapy for individuals with type 2 diabetes.
