Updated

Abstract

A total of 1,362 Chinese adolescents were assessed for symptoms of depression and internet gaming disorder (IGD).

  • Feeling 'Worthless', 'Meaningless', and 'Down-hearted' are the most central symptoms of depression.
  • The most central symptoms of IGD are 'Preoccupation' and 'Tolerance'.
  • 'Gaming for escape or mood relief' serves as a bridge symptom linking IGD to depression.
  • 'No initiative' and 'Down-hearted' are also identified as bridge symptoms from the depression cluster.
  • The study provides a symptom network perspective on the comorbidity between depression and IGD in adolescents.
