Updated

Abstract

Internet use is associated with improved mental health in older adults (β=.075; P<.001).

  • A total of 6648 older adults were surveyed to assess mental health using a depression scale.
  • Significant improvements in mental health were linked to both general internet use and smartphone use.
  • Voluntary activities were identified as a mediating factor in the relationship between internet use and mental health.
  • A younger subjective age was found to enhance the positive effects of internet use on mental health.
