Body Awareness Effects of Modified Lysergamides in Rats Linked to Serotonin Receptor Binding and Breakdown into LSD

Abstract

All N1-substituted drugs exhibited impaired binding and efficacy at serotonin receptors compared to LSD.

  • Four N1-substituted drugs and one diethylamide-substituted drug were screened for their effects on serotonin receptors.
  • Despite weaker receptor affinities, the N1-substituted compounds fully substituted for LSD in rat behavioral assays.
  • High blood levels of LSD were detected after systemic injection of the N1-substituted drugs, suggesting conversion to LSD in the body.
  • LSZ was the only drug detected after administration, indicating it may be biologically active on its own.
  • Variability in human metabolism of these compounds could lead to different pharmacologic effects among individuals.
