Treatments for People with Type 2 Diabetes Who Fast During Ramadan

Abstract

A total of 17 randomized controlled trials involving 5,359 participants assessed interventions for type 2 diabetes during Ramadan.

  • DPP-4 inhibitors may reduce hypoglycaemia compared to sulphonylureas, with a risk ratio of 0.53.
  • SGLT-2 inhibitors may also reduce hypoglycaemia compared to sulphonylureas, with a risk ratio of 0.28.
  • GLP-1 analogues may decrease hypoglycaemia compared to sulphonylureas, showing a risk ratio of 0.45.
  • The evidence regarding serious hypoglycaemia and other adverse events was found to be very uncertain across all interventions.
  • No deaths were reported among participants during the trials, indicating moderate-certainty evidence for this outcome.
