Abstract
The novel dual-functional bilayer nanofibrous membrane, Pn@Janus TPP, significantly enhanced alveolar bone regeneration in a diabetic rat periodontitis model.
- Periodontitis and diabetes mellitus are linked by a bidirectional relationship that creates a microenvironment marked by inflammation and oxidative stress.
- Conventional GTR membranes often perform poorly in diabetic conditions due to their rigid structure.
- The Pn@Janus TPP membrane features a dense barrier layer to block soft tissue infiltration and a porous layer functionalized with polyethylene glycol and nano-hydroxyapatite to improve hydrophilicity and promote bone growth.
