Kai-Xin-San reduces Alzheimer's brain damage and memory loss in mice by improving mitochondrial cleanup and lowering inflammation

Updated

Abstract

KXS significantly enhanced spatial learning and memory capacities in AD mice.

  • KXS reversed abnormal biochemical index levels and reduced amyloid-β protein deposition in the brains of AD mice.
  • Neuronal damage in AD mice was remarkably improved after KXS treatment, as shown by H&E staining.
  • Mitochondrial damage in microglia was ameliorated by KXS, promoting mitochondrial autophagy.
  • KXS increased the expression of proteins related to autophagy and confirmed mitochondrial autophagy in microglia.
  • The treatment enhanced the PINK1/Parkin pathway while reducing the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome.
  • The beneficial effects of KXS were diminished by the mitochondrial autophagy inhibitor chloroquine.
