Different effects of ketamine forms on brain wave patterns, including changes in gamma and delta activity

Updated

Abstract

The wake-inducing and NREM sleep-reducing effects of (S)-ketamine were fourfold stronger compared to (R)-ketamine.

  • (S)-ketamine produced a gamma power increase during wakefulness that was twice as strong as that of (R)-ketamine.
  • Only (S)-ketamine enhanced delta power during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep after gamma activity normalized.
  • The phenomenon of gamma-delta shift was observed exclusively with (S)-ketamine.
