Lamotrigine does not change treatment results in patients with unipolar depression receiving ketamine or esketamine

Abstract

Among 347 patients treated with ketamine/esketamine, 57 were also taking lamotrigine.

  • There was no significant difference in depression outcomes between patients taking lamotrigine and those not taking it.
  • Outcomes were assessed using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology-Self Report (QIDS).
  • The average age of patients was 45.6 years, and 59.7% were women.
  • Adjusting for other medications and various patient characteristics did not change the results.
  • These findings suggest that lamotrigine may not interfere with the antidepressant effects of ketamine/esketamine.
