How Lifestyle Changes May Affect Parkinson's Disease

Updated

Abstract

Nearly 88% of Parkinson's disease patients experience sleep disturbances that may worsen their symptoms and accelerate disease progression.

  • Sleep disturbances are associated with increased severity of both motor and non-motor symptoms.
  • Nutritional interventions, particularly Mediterranean or MIND diets, may be linked to slower disease progression.
  • Poor dietary habits could worsen outcomes in Parkinson's disease.
  • Mindfulness practices may provide substantial relief from stress and psychological distress, including depression and anxiety.
  • Aerobic and strength training exercises can improve motor function, cognitive performance, and quality of life, with programs lasting more than 12 weeks showing greater effectiveness.
