Essence

Diurnal and nocturnal mosquito vectors appear to use different light-sensing pathways to regulate circadian rhythms.

Evidence

This comparative insect study tested Aedes albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus using molecular rhythm analysis, light-blocking paint experiments, and CRISPR/Cas9 knockouts of Aalopsin1, Cxqopsin6, and Cry1 genes.

Caveat

The work identifies species-specific circadian mechanisms and lifespan effects under light conditions, but it does not show direct effects on virus transmission in the field.
