Aedes albopictus exhibits an oviposition peak between zeitgeber time 9 (ZT 9) and ZT 12.

  • Most global species have circadian rhythms that help them adapt to their environments.
  • Core clock genes and microRNAs play roles in regulating these rhythms.
  • The oviposition behavior of Aedes albopictus, a mosquito that spreads dengue fever, is influenced by circadian rhythms.
  • Under varying light/dark conditions, A. albopictus showed a distinct oviposition rhythm.
  • Knocking down the microRNA miR-2940-1 impacted the oviposition rhythm in A. albopictus.
  • These findings suggest miR-2940-1 may regulate oviposition rhythms in this mosquito species.
