Changes in blood fat levels linked to diabetes drugs activating the GLP-1 receptor in type 2 diabetes patients

Updated

Abstract

Twenty-six studies involving 22,290 participants showed that the GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist significantly reduced LDL cholesterol and triglycerides levels.

  • The GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist produced a mean reduction in LDL cholesterol between -11.61% and -6.77%.
  • Triglyceride levels decreased by -19.94% to -13.31% with the GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist.
  • Total cholesterol levels were reduced by -7.94% to -5.09% compared to placebo, insulin, and SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • GLP-1 agonists led to a significant reduction in total cholesterol by -5.20% to -6.39% against placebo and SGLT2 inhibitors.
  • LDL cholesterol levels decreased by -4.32% to -8.17% when compared to placebo and SGLT2 inhibitors.
