Abstract

Liraglutide promotes osteoblast proliferation at an intermediate concentration of 100nM over 48 hours.

  • GLP-1 receptor was confirmed to be present in murine MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts.
  • Liraglutide upregulated the expression of biomarkers associated with different stages of osteoblast development.
  • The treatment stimulated mineralization in osteoblasts.
  • Liraglutide elevated levels of intracellular cAMP and activated signaling pathways involving AKT, ERK, and β-catenin.
  • Blocking GLP-1 receptor signaling and certain pathways reduced the effects of liraglutide on preosteoblasts.
