Adding liraglutide to lifestyle changes, metformin, and testosterone may improve erectile function in obese diabetic men with clear low testosterone

Updated

Abstract

In a study of 43 obese, diabetic men with erectile dysfunction, treatment with liraglutide, testosterone, and metformin improved erectile function and metabolic parameters.

  • At 12 months, all patients reported improved erectile function and metabolic parameters, although glycaemic goals were not achieved.
  • In poor responders to testosterone and metformin, adding liraglutide led to reaching glycaemic targets and significant weight loss.
  • Liraglutide addition resulted in increased levels of sex hormone binding globulin and testosterone.
  • In good responders to testosterone and metformin, there was no improvement in erectile function after a second year of treatment, coupled with increased HbA1c and weight.
