Lishui Xiaozhong granules may protect against diabetic eye damage by boosting damaged mitochondria cleanup and reducing cell death

Updated

Abstract

LSXZ treatment reversed pathological changes in retinal cells under hyperglycemic conditions.

  • LSXZ restored signaling through the PINK1/Parkin pathway, which is vital for protecting retinal cells.
  • Treatment increased the ratio of LC3-II to LC3-I, indicating enhanced cellular repair processes.
  • LSXZ improved mitochondrial function and reduced both apoptosis and ferroptosis in retinal cells.
  • Specific knockdown of PINK1 or Parkin eliminated the protective effects of LSXZ, confirming their importance.
  • In a zebrafish model, LSXZ mitigated retinal layer thinning, vascular dilation, and inflammation caused by high glucose.
