How Short- and Long-Acting Diabetes Drugs Affect Esophagus and Stomach Function in Type 2 Diabetes Patients

Updated

Abstract

Gastric emptying half-time was delayed by 52 minutes with lixisenatide compared to a 25-minute delay with liraglutide.

  • Neither lixisenatide nor liraglutide significantly changed the number of reflux episodes during treatment.
  • No significant differences were observed in the extent of gastroesophageal reflux between the two GLP-1 receptor agonists.
  • Other parameters of esophageal motility and lower esophageal sphincter function did not show significant changes.
  • Gastric acidity decreased by -20.7% with GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment.
