Local Infrastructure Changes Affect Nighttime Insects in Donau-Auen National Park, Austria

Updated

Abstract

A total of 58 species of nocturnal insects were observed, with 21 unique records at the forest edge.

  • Traps in the forest interior contained significantly higher biomass of nocturnal insects compared to edge sites.
  • Moth diversity was greater at edge locations, likely due to the attraction of individuals from adjacent open habitats.
  • Nine species, constituting 15.5% of the observed total, were recorded later than typically expected, suggesting potential impacts from climate change.
  • Insect abundance was higher within the forest, while the forest edge exhibited greater moth species diversity.
