Ongoing Long COVID Symptoms and Monitoring Gaps at 58 US Hospitals
Updated
Abstract
In a cohort of 457,950 COVID-19 cases, 16.28% were identified as having postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC).
- The P2RC algorithm identified 74,560 PASC cases, more than double the rate captured by existing diagnostic codes (<7%).
- Among the identified PASC cases, 89.31% developed chronic conditions requiring ongoing clinical management, representing 14.54% of the total COVID-19 cohort.
- Of the 883 diagnostic codes associated with PASC, 67.27% were classified as chronic or potentially chronic conditions.
- Significant organ system heterogeneity was observed, with different regions showing distinct patterns of chronic conditions.
- The prevalence of PASC is projected to increase through mid-2024, indicating a growing healthcare burden.
