Abstract

The recent World Health Organization clinical case definition identifies key symptoms of post-COVID-19 condition, including fatigue and cognitive dysfunction.

  • Post-COVID-19 condition requires a history of probable or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and symptoms that start within 3 months of COVID-19 onset.
  • Symptoms must persist for at least 2 months and cannot be attributed to an alternative diagnosis.
  • Common symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, and cognitive dysfunction, which can significantly affect daily functioning.
  • Individuals with mild initial infections may still develop chronic impairments similar to those seen in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
  • No single treatment currently exists that effectively addresses all post-COVID-19 symptoms.
